Certainly a quieter area of Croatia, the Northern Itinerary is a little more dramatic; from historical towns, breath taking views, cascading waterfalls and tiered lakes to sprawling national parks, this coastline offers diverse islands and a sense of adventure.
Sailing between Split and Zadar; hugging the coastline and exploring the islands along the way; this is a round robin of adventure and relaxation, a seven night cruise that offers a perfect way to fully experience the northern waters. Step on-board your luxury vessel, sit back and just enjoy! Your mornings are spent on deck, relaxed, with attentive crew and lavish surroundings, as the stunning scenery slips by, take in a dip in the sparkling sea and swim to secluded beaches, or just lie back with a book. Late afternoon join a walking tour guided by a local expert, they certainly know how to bring the places you visit to life with facts and tales of years gone by, a much better experience than relying on a book and going it alone.
Evenings are always a special time; each night you are moored up in a different location, whether a busy city with bustling nightlife, or quieter town steeped in history, the opportunity to find your own eateries and mingle with the locals. This interesting itinerary highlights the lesser known parts of Croatia. Towns, villages and islands and are very different from one another, such as Rogoznica, a small village with cosy café bars and good wine, or Sali, an area of beauty located on Long Island. Kornati is a spectacular sight, and not to be missed, a national park consisting of 140 island and reefs, some of which descend steeply into the sea. Krka, another national park with wooden walkways, waterfalls and lakes, and views to the Krka canyon. Onward to Zadar, which for centuries was the metropolis of Dalmatia, and today the centre of the region. Not forgetting those who like to let their hair down, then Vodice is for you, a lively town offering numerous bars and restaurants.
Theres plenty of ancient architecture and deep history to be seen too, such as Trogir; often referred to as a miniature Venice or floating museum town and finally Split, a UNESCO heritage site with the world famous Diocletian Palace and old city town. If you are looking to get away from the crowds and enjoy dramatic scenery with a quieter feel to the areas you visit, or indeed have visited Croatias southern areas before; then the northern itinerary is your choice.
